On en consomme surtout la racine, en poudre ou en extrait standardis\u00e9, pour ses compos\u00e9s actifs appel\u00e9s withanolides.<\/strong> Le terme \u00ab adaptog\u00e8ne \u00bb d\u00e9signe des plantes traditionnellement r\u00e9put\u00e9es aider l'organisme \u00e0 mieux composer avec le stress \u2014 une notion issue de l'usage empirique, que la science contemporaine explore encore.<\/p>\n  <p>Son nom sanskrit signifie \u00ab odeur de cheval \u00bb, en r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 l'odeur de sa racine fra\u00eeche et, selon la tradition, \u00e0 la vigueur qu'elle \u00e9tait cens\u00e9e conf\u00e9rer. L'ashwagandha n'est pas un m\u00e9dicament et ne remplace aucun traitement.<\/p><\/div>\n\n  <h2 id=\"origine\">Origine : des mill\u00e9naires d'Ayurveda<\/h2>\n  <p>L'ashwagandha est l'une des plantes ma\u00eetresses de l'Ayurveda, le syst\u00e8me de m\u00e9decine traditionnelle indien. Elle y est class\u00e9e parmi les <em>Rasayana<\/em>, les plantes de \u00ab revitalisation \u00bb, traditionnellement employ\u00e9es pour soutenir l'\u00e9nergie et la long\u00e9vit\u00e9. Cette longue histoire d'usage explique sa r\u00e9putation, mais l'\u00e9valuation scientifique moderne est bien plus r\u00e9cente : c'est seulement depuis les ann\u00e9es 2000 que les essais cliniques se sont multipli\u00e9s, avec une qualit\u00e9 m\u00e9thodologique variable.<\/p>\n\n  <h2 id=\"composes\">Les compos\u00e9s actifs : les withanolides<\/h2>\n  <p>L'essentiel de l'int\u00e9r\u00eat port\u00e9 \u00e0 l'ashwagandha vient d'une famille de mol\u00e9cules, les <strong>withanolides<\/strong>. La plus \u00e9tudi\u00e9e, la <strong>withaf\u00e9rine A<\/strong>, exercerait in vitro un effet modulateur sur les r\u00e9cepteurs aux glucocortico\u00efdes \u2014 ce qui pourrait expliquer, en partie, une action sur la r\u00e9ponse au cortisol, l'hormone centrale du stress. Un autre compos\u00e9, le <strong>withanolide A<\/strong>, fait l'objet de recherches pour d'\u00e9ventuelles propri\u00e9t\u00e9s neuroprotectrices.<\/p>\n  <div class=\"gz-callout\"><p><strong>Important :<\/strong> ces m\u00e9canismes sont surtout \u00e9tablis en laboratoire (in vitro ou chez l'animal). Ils aident \u00e0 formuler des hypoth\u00e8ses, mais ne prouvent pas \u00e0 eux seuls un b\u00e9n\u00e9fice chez l'humain aux doses des compl\u00e9ments.<\/p><\/div>\n\n  <h2 id=\"etudes\">Ce que disent les \u00e9tudes (stress, sommeil, sport)<\/h2>\n  <p>Sur le plan clinique, c'est le <strong>stress et l'anxi\u00e9t\u00e9<\/strong> qui concentrent le plus de donn\u00e9es.
